Studio Practice

Production begins with some sort of system which sets the path towards the final outcome. Intuition, chance, and memory, allow for meaning outside of the limitations of the original structure in the final outcome.

The process is somewhat reminiscent of Sol LeWitt’s precedence of allowing the idea to become “a machine that makes the art.” However, within this practice, the restrictions of that set system are at some point abandoned and allowed to sway in order to produce forms and structures that reference other ideas. Structure and logic interact with intuition and chance, in order to locate meaning outside of the original system. Similar to logic or algorithms in programming, the original language structure does set the path, however the human involvement allows both organic and tactility to be present in the final output. The physical hand and human mind is always present.

Webwork

Separate from the studio practice, web development is Raffi's “day job.” The primary focus is on creating accessible standards compliant sites for small businesses and individuals.
